Two Years of Service: A Reflection of Commitment and Dedication

By Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor, Member Representing Obubra 1, Cross River State House of Assembly

As I mark my second year in office, my heart overflows with gratitude—to God Almighty for the gift of life, good health, and divine guidance; and to you, the exceptional people of Obubra 1 Constituency, for your steadfast trust and support. Your mandate is a sacred responsibility, and I hold it in the highest esteem. I am especially grateful to our party leaders, stakeholders, and community leaders for your patience, encouragement, and counsel throughout this journey.

These two years have not been without challenges. Nigeria’s economic headwinds have tested every facet of governance. Yet, despite these obstacles, my resolve to serve you with dedication has never wavered. I remain committed to ensuring that your voices are heard, your needs are prioritized, and your dreams for a better Obubra are actively pursued.

Serving Through Legislation

Within the Cross River State House of Assembly, I have stayed true to my legislative duties—sponsoring and co-sponsoring motions and bills aimed at alleviating the suffering of our people and improving the quality of life in Obubra. My intervention during the cholera outbreak in Eja community, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health, helped curtail a potential public health crisis. Likewise, I spearheaded a strategic media campaign to draw attention to the devastation caused by a windstorm that ravaged Obubra Urban, Ofunbongha 1–4, and surrounding areas, prompting emergency responses.

Some of the key legislative efforts I have championed include:

Motion for the rehabilitation of public schools across Obubra.

Motion for state intervention after the Obubra windstorm disaster.

Motion calling for restoration of water facilities and public utilities.

Motion advocating for improved power supply to government institutions and communities.

Motion urging construction of urban roads, Mile One market garri hall, and motor park rehabilitation.

Motion for the urgent deployment of medical professionals to the General Hospital, Obubra.

Co-sponsored a motion for legal protections for mining communities across the state.

Sponsored a Bill establishing the Passenger Welfare Manifest Scheme—to safeguard the rights and safety of commuters within and beyond our borders.

These are not just motions on paper—they are voices amplified on your behalf, efforts rooted in our shared desire for progress.

Empowerment Through Employment

Among my proudest achievements is facilitating pensionable job placements for constituents—offering not just employment, but dignity, stability, and a future for numerous families. These placements span across key sectors, including the House of Assembly Service Commission, State Civil Service, Local Government Service Commission, Primary Healthcare, Forestry Commission, Technical Education, and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).

Some notable beneficiaries include:

1. Nsimaro Daniel – House of Assembly Service Commission

2. Bassey Ebia Eja – House of Assembly Service Commission

3. Irek Matilda Ihim – State Civil Service (Nursing Superintendent)

4. Friday Eke Francis – Local Government Service Commission

5. Stella Clement Ekpor – Local Government Service Commission

6. Ekperebi Delphine Dimarex – Primary Health Care

7. Costly Okpechi – Local Government Service Commission

8. Irek Williams Ovat – Technical Education Board

10. Ijibah Okoyor Columbus – Cross River Forestry Commission

11. Engr. Okoi Eugene – Director General, VIO

13. Madonna Irek – Reinstated as Accountant, Education Authority, Obubra

14. Prof. Irom Okey – Appointed Provost, College of Agriculture, Obubra Campus

These appointments are more than titles—they are gateways to family upliftment, youth stability, and socioeconomic inclusion.

Reaching Out With Compassion

Public service is not only about bills and policies; it is also about presence—being there when it matters most. Over the last two years, I have provided humanitarian support to constituents facing medical challenges, educational setbacks, and housing instability. From assisting students with school fees to funding surgeries and helping constituents avoid eviction, I have made it my duty to respond where the need is urgent.

Looking Ahead With Hope

As we enter a new phase, I ask once again for your patience, collaboration, and prayers. The road ahead may be long, but together—with unity of purpose and shared determination—we can achieve even more. I am confident that, with the continued support of His Excellency, Governor Prince Bassey Otu, and relevant agencies, we will deliver capital projects and policy wins that will uplift our communities.

To my beloved constituents: thank you for your belief in me. Your prayers, encouragement, and trust remain my greatest strength. As I continue to serve you with diligence, transparency, and compassion, know this: my commitment is unwavering. Together, we will build a more prosperous, peaceful, and dignified future for Obubra.

May God bless Obubra 1 Constituency, Cross River State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
