Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Nwebonyi, Condoles Ogbonaya Onu's, Family, Describes Former Minister as Man With Impeccable Character

The Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Sen. Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has condoled with the Family of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, and the Uburu community on the death of the pioneer civilian Governor of Abia state and the immediate past Minister of Science and Technology.

Dr Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu died on April 11, 2024 at the age of 72. In statement dated April 13 2024 and signed by Romanus Uzor Ozioko, SA, Media to the Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Nwebonyi described Onu as a national leader as an accomplished politician, a first class engineer, a renowned scholar, a true patriot, and a refined administrator who contributed immensely to national development.

The statement read in part: “ I received with rude shock the news of the passing unto eternal glory of our trailblazer, statesman, pacesetter, and accomplished leader- Dr Ogbonnaya Onu who gave his all to the birth of a new Nigeria. "He was a man of prudential courage, pastoral mien, clinical posture and an uncompromising advocate of equity and fair play. He will be fondly remembered for his immeasurable contributions to the emergence of APC as a National Ruling Party in Nigeria and the birth of a new Nigeria.“

Dr Onu played politics without rancour, he was a cosmopolitan leader who contributed his innate intelligence and wealth of experiences to nation building.

"He was not only a strict disciplinarian but a selfless leader who put the nation first in all his political engagements. He will be sorely missed by all his admirers and well-meaning Nigerians.”

The Senate principal officer prayed God to grant the people of Ebonyi State, Abia State and Nigeria in general the fortitude to bear the loss while praying God to grant his gentle soul eternal rest.
