Rivers Crisis: Factional Assemblies Pass Two Separate Bills For Fubara's Assent

By Our Reporter

The political crisis rocking Rivers State has continued unabated as two rival factions of lawmakers held parallel sessions of the House of Assembly over the weekend.

The factions, one loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, and the other loyal to FCT Minister, and led by Martins Amaewhule at the weekend passed different bills and carried out separate functions.

The Victor Oko-Jumbo faction, which backs Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, confirmed nominees for the Rivers State Bureau on Public Procurement (RSBoPP), including Lawrence Oko-Jaja, SAN.

Oko-Jaja pledged to ensure transparency and accountability in state procurements.

In contrast, the Amaewhule-led faction passed the Electricity Market Bill, 2024, aimed at enhancing the investment climate in Rivers State by establishing a regulatory body for power supply. The bill has been forwarded to the governor for assent.
