Rivers Crisis: Akpabio, Senators To Intervene Over Supreme Court Judgment

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has pledged to mobilize Niger Delta senators to address the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
Akpabio disclosed this in Abuja when he met with the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum, who had paid him a solidarity visit.
He emphasised that he and other senators from the Niger Delta region would engage in finding peaceful resolutions for the state and other regions facing similar issues.
The Rivers crisis intensified after the Supreme Court upheld a ruling halting the state's allocation until a valid House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, is constituted.
The political tension escalated when the Amaewhule-led House gave an ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present the 2025 budget, which expired on Wednesday.
Additionally, the Assembly directed the governor to sack all commissioners and political appointees.
Akpabio also criticized "armchair critics" who comment on Senate matters without understanding its procedures.
He defended the Senate's decision to suspend Kogi Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for violating Senate rules, urging the public to refrain from uninformed commentary on parliamentary issues.
In response to concerns raised by Jonathan Lokpobiri Snr, leader of the delegation, Akpabio assured that the Senate would address ongoing concerns, including the Coastal Road project and the Maritime University in Oron.
He also promised to support extending the Warri-Itakpe rail line to Abuja.
Akpabio stressed the significance of the Senate presidency for the Niger Delta people, highlighting its critical role in Nigeria's economy and urging unity in facing challenges.
