Revenue Generation: CRIRS, Consultants Review Performance Report

As part of the tax reforms mandate to enhance the State's revenue generation profile, the Cross River Internal Revenue Service has met with its Consultants to review the revenue generation performance report from June - August, 2023.
Such meetings accord the Cross River Internal Revenue Service the base to critically appraise performances of Consultants, reset goals and come up with innovations that will restructure the system.
The Acting Executive Chairman of the Cross River Internal Revenue Service, Prince Edwin Okon, commended the efforts of the Consultants in ensuring government coffer gets its accrued revenue remittances, despite facing challenges in the field. Efforts, he said, propelled the 21.6% State IGR increase.
Prince Okon however frowned at the laxity on the part of some consultants to deliver on their targets, announcing that new policies have been put in place by the Service to address such shortcomings, charging them to step up their efforts as consultancy letters of engagement would be reviewed every ninety days and payments would no longer be on target basis but by commission basis effective from October 1, 2013.
Still speaking, the Acting Executive Chairman stressed on the need for Consultants to keep supporting the government of Sen. Prince Bassey Otu by being on ground to curb multiple taxation, illegal checkpoints and follow due process when filing documents, these and more he said are pivotal to government, implementing policies that attract investments and ensure the equitable distribution of economic wealth.
Adding his voice to charge the Consultants on the need to increase their performances, the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Felix Idem said, "If Government must succeed in the implementation of policies, creation of jobs, building infrastructures and others, we must bolster support for the government."
The Consultants were given the floor to discuss their challenges as well proffer solutions to some of the challenges.
