PROTEST: DELVAN Advocates Dialogue, Urge Members To Shun Protest
The Delivery Vehicle Owners and Drivers Association of Nigeria, DELVAN has lent its voice to the growing calls by concerned Nigerians for those behind the planned protest to shun their actions and embrace dialogue as a better alternative in resolving prevailing economic challenges.
DELVAN stressed that even though protest is permitted in a democratic dispensation, precautionary measures need to be taken to avert a replica of the monumental havoc wrecked by the 2020 Endsars protesters, especially in Cross River State
A statement issued in Calabar and endorsed by the National President and Secretary of DELVAN, Comrade Raphael Sabbastine, and Comrade Shehu Dauda respectively on behalf of the National Working Committee of the association barred its members across the country from participating in the proposed national protest.
It argued that" Though it would be hypocritical to gloss over the excruciating hardship ravaging the country, the obvious truth remains the fact that the challenge is an accumulation of some lopsided policies and programs embarked upon by the previous administration both at the state and national level"
This therefore calls for understanding and patience since the administration of President Ahmed Tinubu is working assiduously to usher in a better country with an improved standard of living"
The statement also applauded Governor Bassey Otu for massive rehabilitation of road network around the state, priority attention to security of lives and property,as well as the recent approval for the sum of ten billion naira for payment of outstanding gratuity spanning over 10 years.
DELVAN implored Cross Riverians to give Governor Bassey Otu the needed support and cooperation to enable the governor to succeed in his task of repositioning the state from the brinks,
