PRESS RELEASE: MAYOR OF CALABAR CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON MINI BUS DRIVER IN CALABAR MUNICIPALITY BY UNKNOWN TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AGENTS

The Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council, Apostle Rt Hon James O. Anam, has condemned in strong terms, the assault on the Driver of a mini bus along Ndidem Usang Iso Road.
The Council chairman who was reacting to the incident which occurred on Thursday 13th February 2025, described the incident as a very unfortunate one.
He went on to dissociate himself and the Calabar Municipal Council from the unknown persons who carried out the physical attack on the mini bus driver under the guise of enforcing traffic rules.
Apostle Anam stated categorically that the Calabar Municipal Council has not given anybody or group contract for enforcement of traffic rules and the Council was therefore going to work with law enforcement agencies with a view to identifying and punishing those behind the assault of the mini bus driver.
Arising from the incident, the Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council announced the immediate disbandment of all task forces set up by Council for various revenue generation activities.
He explained that it was in a bid to bring some level of sanity to revenue generating activities that his Administration introduced an Automated Revenue Payment System for its revenue heads.
He assured indigenes and residents of Calabar Municipality of his unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law, and to ensure that officials of Calabar Municipal Council do not use violent approach in the discharge of their duties.
Apostle Anam called for calm from the public while investigations are going on to identify perpetrators of the violent act and advised the people to go about their lawful activities.
He sympathized with the Driver of the mini bus, while assuring that all those involved in the attack will not go unpunished.
He also announced a handsome reward for anyone with useful information on those that carried out the physical attack on the mini bus driver.
