The apex Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, have applauded President Bola Tinubu for his courageous decision to appoint a Southerner and Christian, Nyesom Wike, as the FCT Minister.
Ohanaeze in a statement signed by the Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, described as discriminatory the security operation of the country noting that it is tantamount to religious war against the christians all over the country.
The organisation described Wike as a national asset and strong pillar of this administration, whose commitment to addressing insecurity challenges is unwavering.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly believes that President Tinubu’s visionary leadership, combined with Wike’s competence and dedication, will lead the nation to greater heights.
They vehemently opposed such negative act of imbalance in the security architecture of the country, lamenting how the Igbos are being sidelined in the appointments into defense offices.
Ohanaeze called on well meaning Nigerians to discourage and condemn every act or statement targeted at disorganizing the unity and peace of the nation.
On the issue of the Monday sit-at-home being witnessed in the South East, which has defaced the economic situation of the region, the group appealed to the federal government to intervene and bring a lasting solution and bring perpetrators behind the issue to book.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo further called for immediate arrest of Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for his treasonous offense against the state.
"We urge the relevant authorities to take swift action to ensure that individuals who promote violence and sow seeds of discord are held accountable for their actions.
"We also urged Nigerians to work together as one indivisible entity stand in the pursuit of peace, security, and progress of the nation.
