Obanliku Collapsed Bridge: CR Assembly Solicits Gov't Prompt Intervention

The State Assembly has adopted a motion calling on the State Executive to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the collapsed bridge which was swept away by the heavy downpour on Monday 4th September, 2023 in Bishiri Community, Obanliku Local Government.
In a motion brought before the House by the Member representing Obanliku State Constituency, Hon. Ashakia Pius Ashas noted that "the popular Kaffa Bridge linking Shikpeche and Lishiche Communities in Bishiri, North Ward of Obanliku Local Government Area , collapsed and was washed away, after the torrential rain fall and distroyed property worth Millions of Naira.
The lawmaker lamented the difficult situation his constituents will have to go through, considering the strategic location of the bridge which serves as a major route conveying farm products to and from Markets in Obudu Local Government as well as Tiv Markets in Benue State".
Members in their contributions, called on the State Government to as a matter of importance, intervene through it's relevant Agencies, the Federal Emergency Management Agency ( FEMA) as well as the State Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA ) to urgently provide pallatives to cushion the hardship currently faced by citizens as well as rehabilitate the said Bridge.
Similarly, the House further expanded motion to capture the collapsed of more than ten buildings also affected by flood water.
Addressing the press after plenary, the Member representing Yala11 State Constituency, Hon Ogidi Martins Achadu, lamented that despite several warnings of devastating floods by SEMA , about twelve Communities in North Ukelle axis, have been ravaged with farmlands, as well as crops worth several millions of Naira swept away leaving their owners with little or nothing to start with.
Achadu, noted that houses in the area were built with mud bricks and Chulk which has made it easier for the collapse of more than twelve Houses.
The lawmaker called on the relevant Government Agencies to immediately swing into action by providing necessary pallatives to help cushion the effect on victims who are all from Wanihem,l in North Ukelle.
