NUP, Calabar Branch Women Committee Gets New Patron

The Nigeria Unlon of Pensioners (NUP) Women Committee, Calabar Branch has honoured her branch Chairman, Chief Godwin Effiong as Patron of the Branch.
Comrade Effiong, a Pharmacist by profession who had served in most of the General Hospitals across the State was invested as Patron of the Women Committee of NUP, Calabar branch for demonstrating exceptional commitment through selfless service to members of the Union.
Speaking at the Investiture and end of year party, the Chairperson of the branch, Comrade Mary Offiong Kufre explained that the Investiture was designed to appreciate the honouree for his unwavering commitment to the Union which has impacted positively on the lives of Pensioners in Calabar.
She reflected on the achievements and challenges of the branch for the past one year and commended members for their hard work, passion and determined resolve to gather to celebrate the end of another year to embrace the joyous spirit of Christmas.
"Today, as we gather in the spirit of unity, let us cherish the friendships we have formed, the memories we have created and the bonds that tie us together. This Investiture on our Patron, Comrade Godwin Effiong serves as a symbol of respect in recognition of his unwavering support to the women committee", the Chairperson stated.
Earlier, the State Chairperson Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Comrade Fidelia Okpo Ene (Rtd) lauded the women for coming together to celebrate the season with joy.
The Chairperson who spoke through the state Secretary of NUP, Chief Eddy Bernard Edet noted that the State Executive is working hand in hand with the present Government to improve the livelihood of Pensioners in the State which will unfold soon and advised Pensioners to always consult the NUP Secretariat whenever in doubts.
In response, the honouree and Chairman, Calabar branch of NUP, Comrade Godwin Effiong thanked the women for the honour done him and expressed appreciation for their support during the last election which saw his emergence as the Calabar branch Chairman.
Comrade Effiong promised to imbibe the spirit of inclusiveness to sustain the unity the Union is noted for and reiterated his preparedness to work with the Women wing of the NUP.
Also honoured was the State Chairperson Women Committee, (NUP) Eti - Eka Regina George, at the colourful event which featured traditional dances, motivational talk drama and general merry - making.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the departed.
