Niger Delta Youths Sports Festival Ends with Cross River State Finishing Bottom of Medals Table

The Niger Delta Youths Sports Festival has ended with Cross River State finishing at the bottom of the medals table with 31 medals.

The regional games which held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom Stated saw the 9 Niger Delta states competing in various sports.

At the end of the tournament which ended on Tuesday April 8, 522 medals were won in total with Bayelsa state topping the medals table with 86 medals consisting of 42 gold, 29 silver and 15 bronze.


Delta state came second with 99 medals consisting of 41 gold, 26 silver and 32 bronze.

Cross River State finished last on the medals table with 5 gold, 7 silver and 19 bronze making a total of 31 medals.

Cross River win 3 gold medals in Table Tennis, 1 in boxing and 1 in 800 meters men single.


The Cross River state commissioner for sports development Agnes Asu while speaking to news men lauded the state team for displaying spirit of resilience.

“I am not disappointed with Cross River athletes, we brought the right category of young athletes on like other states. Some of them this is their first time of traveling out of Calabar.

“Sports is an open contest where everyone is coming there with the spirit to win which means it wasn’t an easy contest” the commissioner said.
