Neglecting South-East Will Come With Huge Consequences — Joe Igbokwe Warns

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has issued a stern warning that Nigeria risks facing dire consequences if the continued marginalisation of the South-East zone persists.
Igbokwe made the remarks in a statement shared via his Facebook page on Saturday, amid growing concerns over the perceived imbalance in federal appointments under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
His warning comes on the heels of criticism from Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South. Ndume had recently cautioned that the administration’s pattern of appointments could backfire if not addressed. The Presidency, however, insists that President Tinubu’s appointments are strictly based on merit.
Reacting to the ongoing debate, Igbokwe expressed strong concern over the exclusion of the South-East, warning that the consequences could be far-reaching.
“If Nigeria continues to treat the South-East as if the zone does not exist or does not matter, the consequences will be huge,” he wrote. “The civil war has ended, but the scars are still there. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Neglect of the South-East is bad.”
Igbokwe’s comments have added fuel to the growing discourse around national inclusion, equity, and the lingering sense of marginalisation felt by the South-East region.
