MTEF IS AN INSTRUMENT OF PLANNING IN GOVERNMENT – DR. NKAN

The Akwa Ibom state Commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Nsikan Linus Nkan, has inaugurated the Technical Committee for the 2026-2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), describing MTEF as an instrument of strategic economic planning and transparency in financial management.
Speaking during the inauguration of the committee for implementation of the framework at the conference room of the ministry, recently, Nkan emphasised that the MTEF remains a vital tool for short, medium, and long-term planning to fulfill the campaign promises of Governor Umo Eno’s administration, noting that the committee would set the course for government policies and resource distributiom to ensure consistency with the ARISE Agenda.
He underscored Governor Umo Eno’s deep involvement in the budgeting process, stating that the Governor meticulously examines every detail to shape the state’s annual financial agenda and follows up on budget execution monthly to monitor progress.
Stressing the importance of realistic projections, the commissioner stated that the 2025 budget would serve as the groundwork for the new MTEF document and expressed appreciation to the governor for approving the committee’s formation and urged members to discharge their responsibilities diligently, ensuring a well-structured and effective fiscal strategy for the state.
The 18-member committee is tasked with reviewing economic and financial updates to guide the development of the 2026-2028 MTEF and FSP for Akwa Ibom State.
