By Ndifereke BASSEY
The organised labour unions in Cross River says it is set for the industrial action as proposed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the implementation of the new minimum wage.
This was disclosed to News by the state chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Mr Monday Ogbodum.
The NLC had fixed December 1, 2024 for workers in states that failed to implement the new minimum wage of N70, 000 to commence industrial action.
Ogbodum said except the Cross River government implement the new minimum wage of N70,000, workers in the state will fully join the strike.
The TUC chairman, who disclosed that negotiation with the state government is still in progress, however said that will not stop them from joining the strike.
According to him, "yes, we are still in talk with the government. We had a meeting on Thursday and another one on Friday that ended late in the evening.
"There is going to be another meeting at the weekend, but that is not to say things are well. The government had shown some level of seriousness.
"Our positon is that even if we sign any document or agreement today, that does not still amount to implementation.
"Untill the new minimum wage is implemented, which is labour position, we will be joining the strike from December 1."
