"Keyu's Appointment As Chronicle GM Got Gov. Otu's Endorsement"- Govt. Sources

Government sources in Calabar have confirmed the appointment of Ms. Keyu Edet as the substantive General Manager of the Cross River state Newspaper Corporation, publishers of the Nigerian and Weekend Chronicle Newspapers.

Findings by The Beagle News revealed that Miss Edet 's appointment followed due process and scrutiny from all relevant agencies of government and formally received the endorsement of the governor as required.

The confirmation from.impeccable official sources has put to rest recent stories trending in the social media platforms accusing the Commissioner for Information, Erasmus Ekpang of unilaterally imposing Ms Keyu Edet on the establishment.

According to our source who preferred anonymity, Edet's appointment was slated to be announced earlier but that the governor had to delay the announcement to tally with other expected appointments.

Government sources pointed out that the governor has a prerogative to appoint whosoever he deems fit to the service of the state as far as the person is fit and academically qualified. 

It explained that the position of the General Manager of the Newspaper Corporation is not an exclusive reserve of journalists alone as in time past the likes of Brown Ubom, Michael Monn and Patrick Okem and others have all served well as General Managers but were not Journalists.

The source advised writers on the importance of having facts before going public or else they will end up rubbishing the case they are trying to make or accusing innocent people wrongful as is the case now.

A source close to the Information Commissioner observed that the Commissioner is too knowledgeable to have taken the laws into his hands by going against a directive of government which he ought to uphold It condemned the write up in question noting that it failed to source for the truth and has instead fed the public with the wrong information and thereby intentionally try to set the information boss against the Governor.

 Accordingly, the source has called for an apology and retraction of the said story stating that it's unprofessional, mislead,ing and a piece of misinformation.

Meanwhile, Miss Edet has assumed duties as the General Manager since the endorsement by His Excellency Governor Bassey Otu.
