Governor Otu Marks Two Years in Office with Impressive Transformations Across Sectors

As Governor Bassey Otu marks his second year in office, a recent media tour of some of the projects carried out by his administration has revealed a remarkable transformation across various sectors in Cross River State. 

From health and education to infrastructure and agriculture, the Otu-led administration has made significant strides, earning praise from stakeholders and citizens alike.

The media tour showcased some of the notable projects, including the rejuvenation of the state library complex, which is 70% completed, and the renovation of public schools in the state such as Government Secondary School Uwanse. 

The administration has also embarked on a tractor empowerment scheme for farmer cooperatives, with 108 tractors already procured for distribution. Each of this tractors according to the permanent secretary ministry of agriculture Elder Odey Ikongha has personalized ploughing, ridger and planters.

In the health sector, the administration hasprovided an Electronic Medical Records system in general hospital Calabar, doing away with the mundane paper filing system, received a digital ambulance from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as well as renovated and re-equipped 94 primary health centers which work is ongoing across the state. The Director General of the state primary health care development agency Dr. Vivian Mesembe OTU while talking to newsmen during the tour, revealed that the Governor has employed over 380 health staff in primary health facilities and partnered with the World Bank to improve service delivery in the health sector.

Infrastructural development has not been left out as the Otu led administration christened “Peoples First government” has under taken the repair of the deadly Yellow Duke failed culvert, converting it to a bridge and the construction of the Adiabo-Ikon Eto road, which was initiated 33 years ago and abandoned by the Abacha led military government. 

The administration in its 2 years in office has also procured 200 pieces of Spiro electric motorcycles for distribution to farmers groups in a bid to encourage agriculture and boost food production in the state.

The Special Adviser General Duties to the Governor, Barr Ekpenyong Akiba, while speaking on what he termed the Governors 2 years of massive transformation praised the Governor's cognitive leadership, saying, "He is fixing state-of-the-art facilities across the state, he has provided conducive working environment, brought  us back in sports, we are back in tourism, we are back in education."

On his part, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Erasmus Ekpang highlighted the administration's achievements, saying, "A lot has been achieved in just 2 years. 

“We're actually in a revolutionary state, imagine us in the next three years, Otu is a game changer."


“He is opening up the state to investors with the upcoming deep sea port, cargo airport in Obudu and the purchase of additional aircrafts to add to the Cally Air fleet Cross River will be the preferred destination for business and leisure” Ekpang commended. 

Stakeholders have commended Governor Otu's leadership, describing him as a visionary leader who has brought confidence and prospects to the state.

As Governor Otu looks to the future, citizens are optimistic about the state's prospects, particularly with in terms of economic prospects that will change state’s status as a civil service state.
