Fresh Crisis Rock AKHA, As Executive Bill Seeking Chairmen To Reside In Their LGAs Rejected

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has withdrawn the executive bill seeking the residing of Local Government Chairmen in their various LGAs.

The House of Assembly Bill for a Law to make the Chairmen of Local Government Councils in Akwa Ibom State to reside in their Local Government Areas during their tenure of office and for connected purposes, has been withdrawn from the House.

The Executive bill which passed first reading last week, was listed for second reading on the order paper at plenary today, Tuesday 12th, September, 2023.

Being an Executive Bill, the Lead Sponsor and Member Representing Nsit Ubium, Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob moved a motion for its withdrawal without stating reasons.

The House Standing Order 7 rule 11 made it clear that, “A member in-charge of a bill may move a motion without notice for it's withdrawal either before commencement of public business or on the order of the day for any stage of the bill being read".

Motion for the withdrawal of the bill was seconded by the Chief Whip and Member Representing Mbo, Rt. Hon. Effiong Johnson.

While filing questions from members of the press, the Deputy House Leader explained that the Executive arm of Government intimated the House of no interest to pursue the bill and it had to be withdrawn.
