The former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Castro Ezama has lauded Governor Bassey Otu for paying a total of N440,127,000 as WAEC fees for 16,301 indigenous students.

Castro Ezama admitted in a message to the governor that the terrible challenges and harsh economic realities have made it very difficult for parents and guardians to provide even food not to talk of meeting educational responsibilities and stated that the governor's gesture was timely and in order.

He said by this act of kindness, the governor indeed has eased the burden, put smiles on the faces of families and restored hope and trust in government.

According to the former Special Adviser, the governor has left no one in doubt that the people's first mantra is a vision his administration will pursue to it's logical end.

While calling on the beneficiaries to do all they can to excell in the examination, Ezama appealed to parents and guardians to show their appreciation by the support given to all programmes of government.

Ezama warned against abuse of the gesture by schools and sued for a transparent registration exercise.

Recall that the Cross River state government had announced it's intention to offset the WAEC fees for students writing the Senior Secondary School certificate as part of resolutions reached at the 20th State Executive Council held on the 7th February ,2024.

The governor's efforts was as a response to the present economic situation characterized by the high cost of living which requires some palliative measures to ameliorate the hardship of parents in meeting the educational needs of their wards.
