Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, (AE-FUNAI) Ebonyi state has been ranked 4th in Nigeria in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking.
The University was also rated among the top 10 universities in Nigeria by the Impact ranking.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking identifies and celebrates universities that excelled across multiple United Nations Sustainable Goals (SDGs).
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is a comprehensive global ranking of universities published annually. The 2024 rankings include 1,907 universities across 106 countries and regions.
The ratings were based on 18 performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across 5 areas – teaching, research, environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.
The methodology for the overall Impact Rankings integrates scores across multiple SDGs to reflect overall performance and impact.
The 17 SDGs reflect the university’s efforts in fostering robust international partnerships and cooperation for achieving all SDGs.
In the 2024 ranking, AE-FUNAI performed creditably in SDG 3 – Good health and wellbeing, SDG-4 – Quality education, SDG 13 – Climate action and SDG 17 - Partnership for goals.
Overall, the scores of the Impact Ranking show that the university is excelling in its articulation of good partnership for achieving SDGs.
Nevertheless, its best score in the ranking is on SDG 13 –Climate action, while SDG 4- Quality education and SDG 3 – Good health and wellbeing follow closely.
The top 10 universities in the impact ranking are: Afe Babalola University, Covenant University, American University of Nigeria, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Lagos state University, Landmark University, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Adeleke University, Ajayi Crowther University and Babcock University.
Meanwhile, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike has also been ranked 18th in Nigeria in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
While speaking on the rankings, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Sunday Elom, noted that the performance of the university reflects the high standard of academic activities in the institution, assuring that his administration will continue to improve the quality of teaching and research activities to make the university one of the best in the country.
He also commended the research output of the university academic staff whose exploits have put the university in the world map even as he applauded the efforts of the Directorates of Internationalization, Linkages, Advancement and Global Ranking, Campus-Green Initiative and Climate Change and Development for their initiatives and climate and environmental action activities which were duly recognized by the scores of the university in the rankings
