EBSIEC Sets For June LG Election, Says Eze, Chairman

The Chairman of Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) Barr. Jossy Eze says, has disclosed that he is ready and committed to conducting local government elections in June 2024 in line with the stipulated electoral guidelines.
Eze, who made the disclosure when members of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and EBSIEC Matters, paid him a familiarization visit in Abakaliki, stated that the Commission is prepared for the election but currently mobility and office accommodation as main challenges confronting them.
The state chairman noted that insufficient funds is hampering their operations and have not been able to pay Ad-hoc staff that worked with them in the last election their remuneration.
Barr Eze highlighted the achievements of the Commission under him to include introducing simultaneous voting pattern which other states have emulated and the conduct of free and fair elections.
He commended the House Committee for the visit and appealed for a more robust relationship that would enable the Commission to do better.
Earlier, the Chairman Ebonyi state House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and EBSIEC Matters, Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam, said the essence of the visit was to ascertain the level of preparedness for the forthcoming local government elections in the state.
The Committee Chairman who represents Izzi East, told the Commission how important and relevant the issues concerning the rural dwellers are to the government and implored them to always carry the committee along in all their functions.
He commended members of the Commission for their excellent performances in the last local government elections describing them as credible people with impeccable character and urged them to replicate same in the forthcoming local government elections.
In his remarks, a member of the committee and Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Nkemka Okoro Onumah, noted that Committee’s commitment to ensuring that government decision in making the local government administration viable and commended the Commission for the works it has been doing in the state.
Also speaking, Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu, representing Ikwo North, Hon. Stephen Orji Igwe from Edda East and Hon Victor Chidi Nwoke commended the Commission, advising that they should continue in the same way in the forthcoming election.
