Ebonyi State: Former Rep Okorie Emerges LP Candidate for Ebonyi South Senatorial By-Election Slated For Feb. 3

A forner member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Linus Abba Okorie, has emerged Labour Party (LP) candidate for Ebonyi South senatorial election coming up on February 3, 2024.
Okorie, who represented Ohaozara, Onicha and Ivo federal constituency in the National Assembly, had contested the 2023 general election for the same senatorial seat but lost to the former Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.
Umahi later resigned to become the Minister of Works, thus leading to the declaration of the senatorial seat vacant by the NASS leadership and subsequent by-election.
In a LP primaries held at
Amuro/Mgbom Community Primary School field, Afikpo- the headquarters of the Senatorial District on Sunday, OKORIE defeated three other aspirants.
Announcing the result, the chairman of the Electoral Committee, Comrade Ayo Olorufemi, said: "Hon. Linus Abaa Okorie got 40 votes while Nwabueze Ogo Eze got 10 votes and Fred Okereke got 7 votes.
"The total valid votes according to the Electoral Committee stood at 57 while there were no invalid votes.
The primary election monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is to pick candidates of political parties ahead the February 3, 2024 by- election.
