The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Minister of Works', Engr Dave Umahi, have endorsed Prof. Anthony Okorie Ani, as the consensus candidate in the forthcoming February 3 bye-election in the southern Senatorial zone.

Ani, a professor of agricultural extension and rural sociology, hails from Onicha community.

Ani was endorsed at a joint meeting of the critical stakeholders from the zone held wmwith the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru at his country home, Offerekpe Agbaja, Izzi local government area, Ebonyi State.

Recall that the Senatorial position was zoned to Onicha LGA by the State Working Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC) Ebonyi State after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the zone's seat in the National Assembly vacant following the honourable resignation of Sen. David Nweze Umahi.

Umahi won the February, 2023 National Assembly to the Red Chamber and was pointed to Minister of Works by President Tinubu.

Endorsing Ani, Umahi said he is the right man to replace him at the Senate considering his background and pedigree.

Another stakeholder, Chief Emmanuel Agisi, said: "The nomination of this seasoned academia and astute administrator is a round peg in a round hole as he will employ his wealth of knowledge and experience in ensuring effective representation and legislation at the National Assembly."
