Cross River Government Reaffirms Support for Healthcare Workers Amid Ultimatum

The Cross River State Government has pledged to address the concerns of healthcare workers while maintaining a collaborative relationship with labor unions.
During a meeting with the United Healthcare Actions Committee on Thursday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk, assured workers of Governor Bassey Otu's commitment to their welfare. Dr. Ayuk emphasized that healthcare remains a priority under the administration, praising the dedication of health workers across the state.
In response to a 21-day ultimatum issued by healthcare unions over potential industrial action, Dr. Ayuk reassured attendees that the government is committed to honoring its agreements. He urged unions to reconsider the ultimatum, citing ongoing efforts to resolve their grievances.
"Governor Otu is steadfast in supporting workers, ensuring timely salaries, gratuities, pensions, and implementing the N70,000 minimum wage. Healthcare remains a cornerstone of our people-centered agenda," Dr. Ayuk said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties, Ekpenyong Akiba, Esq., also highlighted the administration’s commitment to fostering positive relationships with workers.
Union representatives, including Dr. Joseph Bassey, commended the government’s proactive dialogue and clarified that the ultimatum was procedural rather than adversarial.
This meeting, attended by top officials and union leaders, showcased the state government’s dedication to enhancing the healthcare system and prioritizing the welfare of its workers.
