The Cross River State Government has launched a comprehensive statewide initiative to recover public assets that have been unlawfully occupied by private individuals and organizations. This strategic effort, spearheaded by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Asset Management and Recovery, Barr. Gilbert Agbor, commenced in the central senatorial district and will gradually extend to all parts of the state.
Speaking to journalists in Calabar, Barr. Agbor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reclaiming misappropriated assets and warned illegal occupants to vacate immediately. He emphasized that the administration would pursue all necessary legal avenues to ensure that public property is rightfully restored to the state. According to him, no unauthorized occupation of government assets will be tolerated, as the initiative aims to promote accountability and responsible asset management.
He further highlighted that the assessment and recovery process has already recorded significant progress, with several illegally occupied properties identified. The ongoing exercise is expected to provide a clear inventory of state-owned assets while preventing further encroachment on government property.
The initiative has been met with widespread support and commendation from Cross Riverians, who view it as a bold and necessary step toward ensuring transparency and good governance. Many citizens believe the move will not only deter future illegal acquisition of public assets but also guarantee that state-owned properties are used for the collective benefit of the people.
