C'River Sports Commissioner To Prioritise talent hunt

The Cross River Commissioner for Sports Development ,Hon Agnes Atsu, has promised to prioritise grassroots sporting programmes.
The programme would create opportunity to discover, groom and expose young talents which abound in the various fields of sports around the communities
Atsu, who disclosed this when she officially received the state contingent from the MTN Athletic Championship held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom in her office, said the state's comprehensive agenda would resuscitate the sports sector with emphasis on discovery, nurturing and exposure of young talents by providing them needed pedestal to exhibit their natural talent for national and global competitions.
To achieve this, the Commissioner revealed that plans are on to revive grassroots sports in pursuance of the "catch them young" objective which is a vital component of our restoration agenda in the sporting sector"
He commended the team for it's outstanding performance and assured government support in restoring sports.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Ministry, Mr Sam Egbala, expressed optimism in the capacity of the Commissioner to drive the restoration agenda in the sector with the support of Governor Otu.
"The season of sweetness is set to envelop the sporting arena in Cross River because already, the Governor has alluded to the empirical truth that sport remains a potent tool in addressing youth unemployment and restiveness."
Speaking also, the State Director of Sports, Coach Moses Eta, said the MTN Athletics Championship was a viable platform for exposing the participant to the global stage as part of the initiatives designed to groom upcoming talented for the future.
The team won a total of seven medals comprising two gold, four silver, and one bronze.
Some medals were presented to the Commissioner by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
