C’River Speaker Urges Counterparts To Prioritise People-oriented Projects

Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has tasked his counterparts across the country to prioritise people-oriented policies, projects and programmes in their legislative business as critical stakeholders in the governance of their respective states.
Ayambem who made the charge at the conference of Speakers of Houses of Assembly, held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Thursday, themed 'Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL), highlighted the need to foster stronger relationships through meaningful and people-centric engagements that arouse citizens' consciousness to be involved, as well as influence governance.
Rt. Hon. Ayambem noted that the the theme of the conference will improve legislators' organisation of their legislative business as well as how state governments make, implement, track and account for policies, plans and budgets used in executing policies, projects and programmes to the citizenry. According to him, it will also help on how citizens themselves engage with these processes.
"I am delighted with the organization of this conference. I believe that it will help to awaken the mindset of the Speakers in attendance on the need to continuously put the people first in their day-to-day running of their affairs in their respective States.
"I also believe that the event will help me promote the interest of my people through developmental programmes," he remarked.
When quizzed on his Assembly's readiness, the Speaker assured that the 10th Assembly under him will stimulate legislations that would truly be reminiscent of the yearnings and aspirations of the masses.
