C'River APC Protests Okang's Nomination As NDDC Commissioner

By Missang AKPET

Members of the Ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River State have taken to the streets of Calabar to protest the nomination of a former commissioner of information and Orientation in the state ,Comrade Asu Okang into the NDDC board as Cross River State Representative.

The appointment of Comrade Okang and other members into the board was announced on Tuesday ,August 29 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through his Special Adviser, media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

The APC members who took to the streets in Calabar carrying placards with various inscriptions against the nomination of Comrade Okang said the appointment was a gross negligence of those who worked for the victory of the party at both the state and national levels.

Slogans like "If monkey work monkey must chop" and "We no go gree o... We no go gree" were used to drive home their message as they protested through some major streets.

In the same vein, APC support groups in Delta state have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the nomination of Mr. Chiedu Ebie from Delta State as NDDC Chairman.

The support groups under the aegis of Coalition of APC Support Groups in Delta State who made their stand known through a press release signed by Kelvin Omaviyweghre Ezekiel revealed that Chiedu Ebie is a die hard member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a known persecutor of the APC who worked against the party in the last election.

They said the position of the NDDC board Chairman which they described as "a grade 'A' appointment" was supposed to be reserved for party faithfuls and loyalist who sacrificed their energy and resources to ensure the party emerged victorious.

They however appealed to the national assembly not to clear the NDDC Board nominees except the name of Chiedu Ebie is removed from the list.

The new NDDC board also has another PDP member ,Victor Kolade Akinjo who represents Ondo state in the board.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who on inauguration promised a government of national unity might be more interested in getting the job done with the right hands than towing party lines as he has not only appointed members of opposition parties into the NDDC board but has also appointed Nyesom Wike of the PDP as Minister of FCT, Adebayo Adelabu of Accord Party as Minister of Power and Tahir Maman a close ally of the Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate, Datti Baba Ahmed as minister of education.
