CR-SEMA DG Visits Flood-proned Areas In Yala, Ikom

The Director General, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Chief (Mrs.) Angela Ogeyi Odey has undertaken a tour of flood-proned locations across the Central and Northern Senatorial Districts.

The visit was to ascertain the state of affairs in these locations so as to adequately prepare and address issues of flooding if it eventually happens.

While in the Northern Senatorial District, the Director General used the occasion of the peace meeting in South Ukelle to also visit riverians areas to assess the level of damage flood had done to farms and farmlands having received reports from Hon Martins Achadu, member representing Constituency 11 in the state Assembly.

Areas visited in Yala include Ipollo,Nfuma, Yahe, Udenyuma, Omgbachi, Woleche Ebo, Anyadaha, Anyugbe, Lichaji amongst others.

At Ikom, weekend, the DG visited Ekomhi where she got information from the fishermen and farmers that there were signs of impending flood and their farms, livestock and homes were vulnerable because from experience flood usually occurs in September.

They promised to use their boats and give a helping hand to SEMA to evacuate victims in case of any eventuality.

The DG also visited the USA beach in Ikom to identify areas of risk and there met one Mrs Esther Ibiam from Afikpo, Ebonyi state and her teenage daughter victims of the flood of two years ago who lived at the bank of the river.

Moved by Esther's plight, the SEMA boss immediately paid for an apartment and resettled them because they lacked the means to help themselves.
