Commit to UNICAL's Progress, Reap Divine Rewards - Prof. Obi

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has said that dedicating oneself to the institution's progress guarantees divine rewards.
Prof. Obi said this at the University senate Chambers while addressing participants at the UNICAL Alumni Association's Malabites and Malabresses Interactive Session, themed "Repositioning the University of Calabar for Effective Output 2025-2075."
The Varsity administrator emphasized the need for collective effort towards the institution's progress.
She challenged attendees to reflect on their roles in UNICAL's development, asking, "As an alumnus or staff member, how dedicated are you to your duties? As an alumnus, how much have you contributed to the growth of the university that shaped you?"
Prof. Obi also urged lecturers to evaluate their commitment to students, questioning, "How often do you engage your students? Are you showing loyalty to the system that sustains you?"
She encouraged the attendees to promote UNICAL's achievements and resist spreading negative narratives about the institution.
The Vice Chancellor said, "Amplify the positive stories of your alma mater, change your attitude, and work toward a brighter future,".
Earlier, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Prof. Ernest Asikong, stated that the interactive session aimed to reorient and refocus efforts towards achieving effective outcomes in the university.
The National President of the University of Calabar Alumni Association, Barr. Paul Eshiemomoh, expressed appreciation to attendees and lauded Prof. Obi for her support.
He stated that the session was a moment of reflection and strategizing for a new and improved phase for UNICAL.
Barr. Eshiemomoh, who was also one of the Lead Presenters, called on the alumni to take ownership of the institution's growth and development, adding that,their collective efforts would be crucial in shaping UNICAL's future.
Speaking on the topic; "The Role Of Alumni In University Development", he encouraged the alumni to leverage their expertise, networks, and resources to support the university's strategic objectives and contribute to its continued success.
The immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and substantive Director, Results Management, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita speaking on the topic,
“The Need To Reposition The University Of Calabar For Effective Output: 2025-2075 -A Call For Re-Orientation Of Alumni In Unical Employ", harped on the dearth of quality and capacity amongst this generation of staff.
She bemoaned the lack of commitment, and the concomitant desire for self development, even as she advocated for both attitudinal and intellectual reorientation as a panacea.
Also speaking, the immediate past Registrar of the University, Amb. Gabriel O. Egbe whose topic is titled;
University Of Calabar @ 50: The Dynamics Of Its Workforce faulted the emerging staff recruitment process, saying it accounts for most of the failings the system is currently experiencing.
While profering other solutions to the malaise, he called on the authorities to rejig the Vice Chancellors recruitment process by posting them out of their geopolitical zones of origin after being engaged by the University's Governing Councils.
