The Cross River State Commissioner for Aviation, Captain Eno Utum Inah (Retd) has expressed his Ministry's priority for quality engineering standards to avert breakdown of infrastructure in the aviation subsector in the state.

The Commissioner made this known when he had in audience a team from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Cross River State Branch in his office in Calabar.

Capt. Inah said going by the incessant report of collapse buildings across the federation as a result of substandard materials used by contractors to save cost and make money for themselves, he will ensure standard are not compromised under his watch.

He frowned at the nonchalant attitude of some elements in the engineering sector who consider their personal gains at the detriment of the masses by resorting to compromise established specifications.

The Aviation Boss maintained that Engineers play a pivotal role in the development of key and standard infrastructure, adding that with the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration's determination to running an inclusive government, local content will be given due consideration.

Capt Inah tasked the team to caution its members who are involved in cutting corners and going contrary to the laid down engineering regulations, stating that although local content will be considered, they will be strictly monitored compliance, whenever they are patronized.

Earlier the Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Calabar Branch, Engr (Dr.) Desmond Ewa represented by his predecessor, Engr Ndifon Agbiji said the essence of the visit was to congratulate the Commissioner on his appointment and also seek partnership with the Ministry in driving the ideals of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu's administration.

He appealed to the Commissioner to as matter of necessity carry the Engineers along in implementing the policies that concern engineering, as Engineering graduates are churned out every year by Nigerian universities.

He said the Nigerian Society of Engineers is not in anyway against foreign expatriates, but urged that attention should also given to local content so as to build a solid foundation for future Engineers in the state
