C' River NAWOJ Celebrates Easter With Home for the Aged in Calabar

In the spirit of Easter, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Cross River Chapter has visited inmates of the Pope John Paul II Good Samaritan Home for the poor, Aged and needy, Marian Hill in Calabar with gift items.
The items which included, food stuffs, detergents, beverages, toiletries, among others were meant to augment the upkeep of the home.
Speaking; the Chairperson NAWOJ in Cross River State, Comrade Rekpene Uket explained that the visit was to enable the association share the love of Christ demonstrated at the Cross of Calvary for mankind by sharing with one another.
She noted that the association had paid similar visits to some notable aged homes in the metropolis, particularly a private Home for the aged, at Ekorinim, established by the Prelate of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, PCN, Most Rev. Ekpenyong Akpanika, while it hosted street Children at Efio-Ette roundabout among activities marking the 2025 Valentine's day, and vowed to continue to touch lives in the society according to available resources.
The Nawoj Chair, expressed belief in collective efforts to bring succour to the vulnerable Elderly as well as the less privileged in the society and used the opportunity to call on public spirited individuals, government agencies, non-governmental and civil society organisations to carry out similar gestures on a regular basis at remand homes.
"Today's visit is significant because Easter is a season for sober reflection on the passion, sufferings, death and resurrection of Christ, it's a time to show love, care and kindness to the aged". Rekpene emphasised.
The treasurer, Pst. Margaret Asikong admonished the inmates to accept Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour by reconciling with God to avoid Eternal condemnation.
In appreciation, the Reverend Sister in charge of the Pope John Paul II Good Samaritan home for the poor, aged and needy including some inmates of the home thanked NAWOJ Cross River for the gesture praying God to reward their good works.
