THE law maker representing Boki II State Constituency in the Cross River House of Assembly, RT Hon. Hilary Bisong, has described the  Local Government Amendment Bill 2025 as a game changer for the people.

In an interview, Bisong further described the Bill as landmark legislation that will transform governance at the grassroots level in Cross River state.

He said: "As the representative of Boki II State Constituency, I am proud to speak on the passage of the Local Government Amendment Bill 2025, a landmark legislation that will transform governance at the grassroots level in Cross River State.

"I commend His Excellency, Sen. Apostle Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to the development of our great state.

"I also appreciate the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, and my esteemed colleagues for their dedication in ensuring this bill became a reality. This amendment is not just about restructuring governance but also about empowering our people.

"By increasing the number of appointees for each Local Government Area (LGA) to 50, including more Special Advisers and the introduction of Ward Relation Officers, we are creating more opportunities for inclusion, engagement, and economic growth. This will enhance governance, bring government closer to the people, and provide much-needed employment opportunities.

"The introduction of Ward Relation Officers is a particularly bold and commendable move. These officers will serve as the bridge between the people and the government, ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard and their needs are met. This initiative will strengthen grassroots democracy and improve service delivery across all local governments.

"This is yet another testament to the progressive leadership of the Cross River State Government. We are not just passing laws; we are setting the foundation for sustainable growth and inclusive governance.

"I have no doubt that this amendment will positively impact every community, empower more citizens, and accelerate the development of our state.

"Cross River State is on the path to greatness, and under the leadership of Governor Prince Bassey Edet Otu, we will continue to break new grounds for the benefit of our people. I urge every stakeholder to embrace this opportunity and work together in making our state a model of effective governance in Nigeria," he stated
