C’ River Assembly Member Urges State Government to Revive Moribund Radio/TV Station

The member representing Ikom 1 state constituency Hon. Samuel Neji Abang has called on the state government to as a matter of urgency revamp the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) Ikom.
In a motion raised on the floor of the Cross River State House Of Assembly, Hon Samuel Abang called on the government of Cross River State to as a matter of urgency look into the issues affecting CRBC Ikom with the aim of bringing it back on air.
According to the legislator, CRBC Ikom which has a wider coverage from Yakurr to Obanliku, parts of Ebonyi and Benue states as well as parts of Cameroon has been left Moribund for over 20 years with the radio station barely running 5hrs transmission in a day while the TV has been abandoned.
He noted some issues affecting the station to include funding, shortage of staff, lack of professionals and lack of essential broadcast equipments to offer smooth broadcast.
He called on the state government to as a matter of importance look into the issues and bring the station back to 24hrs broadcasting.
The motion which was co-sponsored Rt. Hon Davies Etta - Member Representing Abi State Constituency, Hon Charles Omang Omang - member representing Bekwara, Hon Effiong Ekarika - representing Calabar South 1, Hon Martins Achadu - representing Yala 2 and Hon Okon Owuna - Member Representing Akamkpa 1 State Constituency received applaud on the floor of the house.
CRBC Ikom which was established in 2003 by the then Governor Donald Duke has a TV and Radio outfit which was meant to bridge the yearning information and communication gap between the Northern and Central Senatorial Districts of the State.
