C'River: Finally,PDP Lawmaker, Ashakia, Defects To APC
The gale of defection in Cross River state has continued unabeted as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) losses another House of Assembly member ,Hon. Ashakia Pius Ashakia, representing Obanlikwu State Constituency.
Ashakia, who defected to the ruling APC on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at his ward, was the remaining PDP Lawmaker in the house.
With his defection, as the last man standing, the 25-member Cross River State House of Assembly is now completely APC.
Recall that three lawmakers from the opposition PDP namely Hon. Martin Achadu (Yala 2), Hon. Omang Charles Omang (Bekwarra) and Samuel Abang Ikom 1, had defected to the ruling APC on Friday, September 27 and Sunday, September 29, 2024 at their respective state constituencies.
Ashakia was received officially into APC fold on the floor of the House of Monday, January 20, 2025.
Sources close to him, told THE BEAGLE NEWS that the leadership of APC in the state had promised the defectors automatic second term thicket ahead of 2027 election.
Before his defection, Ashakia had confided in some political associates that he is suffering alone in House of Assembly as he was being denied many incentives and privileges accrurable to others, who are in APC.
