BREAKING:  Longest longest-serving Assembly Speaker in Nigeria, Mudashiru Obasa, of the Lagos Assembly has been impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Subsequently, Deputy Speaker, Hon Lasbat Meranda has been elected to replace him.

The Deputy Chief Whip, Hon Fatai Mojeed has accordingly been elected as the Deputy Speaker.

Obassa was impeached by 32 members of the  Lagos Assembly following allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement.

He is among other things, alleged to have recklessly spent  a whopping N17 billion on the construction of the assembly complex gate 

Obasa who has been presiding over the Assembly since 2015 was also accused of being contemptuous of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
