Sen. Ekong Sampson Sets to Roll Out Massive Constituency Empowerment - C'ttee

By Imoh Essien (Uyo)
The Senator Ekong Sampson Constituency Empowerment Committee last Tuesday, July 1, 2025 stated that the Senator who represents Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Ekong Sampson, was now set to roll out a massive empowerment programme for his constituents billed to hold in the fourth quarter of this year, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Otuekong (Barr.) Ini Ikott, dropped this hint during a pre-empowerment event press briefing held at Watbridge Hotels in Uyo.
In his introductory speech at the event, Otuekong Ikott informed that the briefing was necessary to convey the intention of Senator Ekong Sampson in respect of the up coming empowerment scheme which he noted was coming up in the fourth quarter of this year. "We have concluded arrangements for the forms to be out probably by next week.
"We are rolling out these forms to the three offices of this senatorial district in Eket, Ikot Abasi and Oron federal constituencies," he pointed out, stressing further that the committee will lay emphasis on NEEDS assessment for the scheme to meet its objective.
The committee chairman explained that "addressing what actually a constituent needs that could improve or assist his business, or his educational career if he is a student, or others in other fields of endeavour, will form the basis for this forthcoming empowerment programme. We have also let the people know that this is not just 'stomach infrastructure', but that it is empowerment."
Ikott also intimated participants of various projects that Senator Ekong Sampson has done in each of the 12 local government areas of the district, saying "some are two and others are three projects in each of the LGAs. There is no local government in the senatorial district that there is no project carried out by the senator," adding that all projects that are completed, those ongoing, and those rolled out have been outlined accordingly for constituents' awareness. He maintained that some of the projects have really been impactful in their respective communities.
In his brief remarks, the Senator Ekong Sampson Campaign Director General, Sir Michael Essang, thanked the press men for honouring the committee's invitation despite the heavy rains. He expressed confidence in the committee regarding concrete arrangements put in place for a hitch-free empowerment programme, even though, according to him, the said scheme was designed to be "a greater empowerment programme than the former one."
Describing the earlier phase of empowerment as "just a test", Sir Essang noted that, "the senator's intention is to ensure that his policies and programmes touch and impact directly on the constituents, particularly those who are actually in need of those things. And that is also why he is making sure that the financial aspect of the programme is even more than the material ones."
He further enthused that Sen. Ekong Sampson, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Solid Minerals Development, means well for the senatorial district, he being a very vocal and conspicuous representative in the Senate. He therefore assured participants that by this indicator, the future will be better for the people of the district.
Engr. Ben Edenseting in his vote of thanks expressed gratitude to God for enabling the participants' presence at the event; and while also thanking the people for honouring the call, he immensely lauded Senator Sampson for always being visible on the Floor of the Senate, and for what he termed "fantastic projects he has been doing across the 12 LGAs of Eket Senatorial District," which, according to him, is one of the largest LGAs across the country.
Engr. Edenseting, who is the Secretary of the host committee, thus urged the members of the press to be good ambassadors of Senator Ekong Sampson by way of reporting the good works he has been doing across Eket Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.
