Residents of Bekwarra Local Government Area of Cross River State have expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Theresa Ushie, for the successful execution and commissioning of a solar-powered borehole project in the area.
The water project, which was officially unveiled during a community gathering, on Sunday, April 13 2025, is aimed at addressing the long-standing issue of water scarcity, which has affected the daily lives of the people. Prior to the installation, residents often had to walk long distances in search of clean water for domestic use.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, The Community Stakeholders, praised the initiative, describing it as a timely and life-changing intervention. “This is a very good project — even more impressive that it is solar-powered. Water can now be pumped even without electricity.”
Many other residents who were present at the event shared similar sentiments, noting that the borehole will go a long way in easing the burden of water collection, especially for women and children. They also appreciated the strategic placement of the borehole at central and accessible points within the community, making it easier for everyone to benefit.
While addressing the crowd, Hon. Theresa Ushie reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to people-centered governance and inclusive development. She stated: “Our people deserve access to clean and safe water. This project is just one of many to come. We will continue to bring development to every part of Bekwarra, ensuring that no community is left behind.”
She also thanked the community for their support and cooperation throughout the execution of the project and encouraged them to take ownership of the borehole by ensuring its maintenance and proper use.
