Assembly Committee Lauds Local Government Affairs Commissioner On Efforts To Rejig Sector, Boost IGR

The Cross River State House of Assembly has commended the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in the state, Chief Victor Felix Idem for his innovative approach towards rejigging the third tier of government as well as curtailing lingering lapses behind the leakages in the internal revenue system of Councils.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Rural Development, Chieftaincy, and Political Affairs, Hon. Kingsley Ntui Isong made the commendation while exchanging views with the media after an interactive meeting with the Commissioner and Heads of Local Government Administration, HOLGA, at the Assembly complex.
The lawmaker, who is the member representing Etung state Constituency explained that the meeting was intended to interface with the ministry and those at the helms of affairs at the councils, explore areas of collaboration with a view of evolving a robust synergy aimed at addressing challenges militating against optimum service delivery at the grassroots.
According to him: Our interface today has been fruitful and revealing. We have gotten first-hand information on the prevailing challenges crippling optimum performance, poor revenue generation capacity as well as manpower crisis in the system".
"The innovative solutions outlined by the Commissioner and his team which are targeted towards addressing the problems inhibiting effective and efficient service delivery are commendable. Worthy of note are the stringent measures initiated by the Commissioner with the backing of the Governor to curtail unscrupulous elements from exploiting our people struggling to earn a living by imposing illegal and multiple levies on them. We can't tolerate such inhumane conduct which is portraying our party in a bad light".
The House of Assembly Committee is ready to work with the Commissioner and the Heads of Local Government Administration to rejuvenate our various Councils to drive government successful policies implementation at the grassroots".
Speaking, the Commissioner, Chief Victor Felix Idem expressed delight at the fruitful deliberations noting that the outcome will impact positively on the operations in the council.
He sued for closer working ties with the Assembly to facilitate the attainment policy thrust of Governor Bassey Otu-led administration for the overall good of the citizenry.
Other members of the Committee are Hon.Stanley Nsemo, Okon Owuna, Eyo Bassey and Mrs. Eme Tete who is the secretary.
