Akwa Ibom Gov’t Begins Health Insurance Enrollment for Public Servants

By Ebi COLLINS

The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken a major step toward improving healthcare access for its workforce with the commencement of the “Formal Sector Plan” under the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme (AKSHIS), christened ARISECare.

This initiative, officially announced through Head of Civil Service Circular No. 1/2025, is set to begin on April 1, 2025.

Signed by the Head of Service, Elder Effiong E. Essien, the circular mandates the full participation of “all civil and public servants in the state, along with their spouses and up to four biological children under the age of 21.” The move aligns with the “Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency Law (Cap 61, 2022),” which establishes the ARISECare scheme for residents of the state.

The scheme was officially launched on September 20, 2024, by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, as part of his administration’s commitment to affordable and quality healthcare for all.

The State Health Insurance Agency has been tasked with ensuring a “smooth and seamless enrollment process,” with all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) directed to provide the necessary support.

This landmark initiative underscores the state government’s dedication to the well-being of its workforce, ensuring that public servants and their families have access to essential healthcare services.
