Group Hails Jarigbe’s Defection, Says Otu Needs Such Heavyweight to Consolidate Leadership

A socio-political group under the aegis of Cross River Progressive Front has applauded Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a strategic move that will strengthen Governor Bassey Otu’s leadership base in the state.
In a statement issued in Calabar on Thursday and signed by its Coordinator, Mr. Eno Effiong, the group said Senator Jarigbe’s decision to join the ruling party demonstrates his commitment to the unity and progress of Cross River State.
Effiong noted that the lawmaker’s wealth of political experience and grassroots influence would bolster the APC’s structure, especially as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to State House correspondents shortly after his formal reception at the Presidential Villa, Senator Jarigbe explained that he opted to defect to the APC to join President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in in optimizing the dividends of democracy for the greater benefit of his constituents and Nigerians at large.
He said his decision was informed by the need to contribute more effectively to the developmental drive of the present administration and to align with a government that has demonstrated clear commitment to inclusive governance.
According to the statement, “Governor Otu has proven himself as a unifier and visionary leader. Having a political heavyweight like Senator Jarigbe on board is a boost that will further solidify his administration’s developmental agenda.”
The group further urged other political stakeholders to emulate Senator Jarigbe’s sense of foresight and join hands with the governor in advancing the state’s socio-economic growth.
It commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for receiving the senator and other defectors at the Presidential Villa, noting that the gesture reflects the president’s inclusive leadership style and open-door policy.
The statement concluded by assuring the governor and the APC leadership of the group’s continued support in driving sustainable development and good governance in Cross River State.
