Father’s Day: NDDC Rep Duke Urges Govt to Enact Policies for Responsible Parenting
By Missang AKPET
The Cross River State Representative on the NDDC Board, Rt. Hon Orok Otu Duke, PhD, has called on federal, state, and local governments to create policies that promote responsible parenting and protect family values.
In his Father’s Day message, Duke said fathers play a critical role in shaping Nigeria’s moral, social, and economic future.
According to him, fatherhood is more than providing food and shelter. “Fatherhood is a sacred responsibility that goes beyond providing for the family. It involves nurturing, mentoring, protecting, and instilling values that help raise responsible citizens,” he stated.
The former lawmaker said many families are under social and economic pressure. He urged policymakers to introduce family-friendly initiatives and social support systems to help parents raise well-adjusted children.
He paid tribute to fathers and father figures “who continue to make sacrifices despite prevailing challenges, describing them as unsung heroes of societal stability.”
“As we celebrate Father’s Day, let us recognize the invaluable contributions of fathers and guardians who dedicate themselves to raising future leaders,” Duke added.
He expressed optimism that stronger family structures would reduce social challenges and foster peace, unity, and sustainable development.
