In fulfillment of his campaign promises to strengthen healthcare delivery in his constituency, Rt. Hon. Alex Egbona has commenced the installation of mini grid solar inverters in selected Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker said the intervention is aimed at providing steady and reliable electricity to health facilities in communities without access to public power supply, thereby enhancing service delivery, particularly in maternal, emergency, and night time healthcare services.
Egbona disclosed that the solar inverters have already arrived in the constituency, with engineers currently on ground to carry out the installations. He described the project as part of his people oriented development agenda, stressing that access to functional healthcare facilities remains a priority.
Under the 2025 budget, eight PHCs are benefiting from the solar power project, with five located in Abi Local Government Area and three in Yakurr. The beneficiary facilities include PHC Ngarabe, Ekureku; PHC Adadama; PHC Usumutong; PHC Afafanyi; Model PHC Imabana; PHC Mkpani; PHC Assiga; and PHC Usene in Ugep Urban.
The federal legislator further recalled that in the 2024 budget year, six PHCs across the constituency had earlier been provided with similar solar installations. These include PHC Agbara, Ekureku II; PHC Anong Ezege, Ekureku I; PHC Ebom; PHC Ikpalegwa; PHC Nkpolu, Nko; and PHC Ntan, Ekori.
He added that almost all Primary Health Centres in Abi and Yakurr Federal Constituency have also been illuminated with solar powered street lights, improving security and access to healthcare services at night.
Reaffirming his commitment to sustainable development, Egbona emphasized that “health is wealth” and assured constituents of continued investments in critical sectors aimed at improving their overall quality of life.
