Ebonyi Gov't Distributes Farm Inputs to Boost 2025 Food Production

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has distributed farm inputs to farmers across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas to enhance food production in 2025.

The inputs, which include fertilisers, rice seedlings, and herbicides, were distributed during a ceremony in Ezzangbo, Ohaukwu LGA.

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Uchenna Igwe, said the initiative is part of the governor’s commitment to ensure food security and support genuine farmers.

“Increased food production is a cardinal objective of Governor Nwifuru’s administration,” Igwe said, adding that farming may become a requirement for state appointments.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mrs Nkechinyere Iyioku, urged local councils to establish community-based farms and lead by example. She warned that the inputs must not be sold or hoarded.

The Executive Chairman of Ohaukwu LGA, Chief Ikechukwu Odono, thanked the governor for prioritising rural farmers’ welfare and promised transparent distribution.

A resource person, Mr John Nweze, also trained farmers on best agronomic practices during the event.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that similar distributions were held in Ishielu LGA and other parts of the state, as the government pushes for increased agricultural productivity and job creation.
