CULTURE: Rep Igariwey Hosts 6th Ikeji Lecture, Says Festival Beacon of Shared Heritage

Member representing Afikpo North/Edda federal constituency, Chief Idume Igariwey, has stated that the annual Ikeji (New Yam) lecture series serve as a beacon for our shared heritage and mutual growth. 

Igariwey hosted the 6th annual Ikeji (New Yam) on Sunday, August 23, 2926, at the Law of Luxury Events Place in Ovum Mgbom, Afikpo.

In the last six years, the Okpudo Lecture Series has become etched in the Afikpo cultural calendar.

The event intellectually espouses the values, customs and traditions of the Afikpo and Edda people, which has found expression in the new yam festival as well as showcases the linchpin of their agrarian lifestyle since time immemorial.

In his speech, Igariwey shared a vision that resonates deeply with me: building something that outlives political offices and continues to serve as a beacon for our shared heritage and mutual growth. 

"I am Proud to see our history, peace, and brotherhood being prioritised in such a meaningful way.

"I am particularly delighted by the unprecedented turnout of people that graced the event, from every part of Edda and Afikpo communities, including our neighbours in the South zone. I am grateful.

"I must say a heartfelt thank you to all the distinguished leaders, scholars, groups and community members who joined us at the Law of Luxury Events Place in Ovum Mgbom, Afikpo for the 6th annual Okpudo Ikeji Lecture Series.", he stated.

This year lecture was delivered by Prof. Ogugua A. Egwu (Dean of Basic Medical Sciences at AE-FUNAI), 

He called for an enduring institution and an annual Peace and Unity Dialogue between Afikpo and Edda.
