Cross River NUJ Loses Third Journalist in two Months

By Missang AKPET

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State Council has announced the death of its member and journalist, Mr. Enya Enya Ndem.

In a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Comrade Mike Abang, the union said Mr. Ndem passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Until his death, he was a member of the Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ in Cross River State.

“The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, regrets to announce the death of our colleague and member, Mr. Enya Ndem,” the statement read.

Following his demise, the State Council in collaboration with the leadership of the Correspondents Chapel said it has reached out to the deceased’s family to offer condolences and support.

The union described the loss as yet another painful loss within the professional family after losing late Anietie Akpan and Francis Ogar to the cold hands of death earlier in the month.

“It is our prayer that the Almighty God grant his family the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss, and grant our departed colleague eternal rest and repose in His bosom,” the statement added.

Recall that in March 2026, the NUJ Cross River State Council, alongside the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Edem Darlington, visited the ailing journalist.

They decried his poor living conditions and failing health and as part of the intervention, Mr. Ndem was presented with a new house.

Burial arrangements will be announced by the deceased family.
