Cross River Deputy Governor’s Convoy Involved In Accident, Several People Injured
The convoy of Cross River State Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, was on Sunday involved in an accident along the Ikom-Calabar highway near Ugep in Yakurr Local Government Area.
The incident occurred as Dr. Odey and his entourage were returning to Calabar from Obanliku Local Government Area, where they attended an official’engagement.
Although the condition of the deputy governor could not be confirmed as of press time, several members of his convoy were reportedly injured in the crash.
According to a source, a Government House press bus conveying appointees and staff of the Office of the Deputy Governor veered off its lane near an Army checkpoint in Ugep and crashed into sandbag barricades.
The source attributed the accident to brake failure. Other vehicles in the convoy were also said to have been damaged, though the extent of the damage could not be independently verified.
