Cross River: Commissioners Seeking Elective Positions Dare Otu, Refuse to Resign After March 26 Deadline

Cross River Commissioners seeking elective positions ahead of 2027 general election seem to have given deaf ear to Governor Bassey Otu's directive that they should resign by March 26,.2026.

Recall that at the last State Executive Council meeting, the Governor had instructed all appointees with political ambitions to step down and participate in party primaries, a move that reportedly surprised many who had assumed tacit approval from the governor to run while remaining in office.

Checks by THE BEAGLE NEWS as at close of work on Thursday,March 26, 2026 revealed that none of the Commissioners eyeing elective positions has rendered resignation letter.

It was gathered that most of them had moved to Abuja to continue lobbing the Governor to extend the deadline or even give tacit approval to their ambition.

However, the office of the SGS has confirmed that no political appointee has resigned.

A statement titled "Public notice On Resignation of Political Appointees"

signed by the SA on Political Matters, Office of the SGS, Chief Ifere Paul, said they have not received any letter of resignation from any appointment

The statement reads in part: "The Office of the SGS has not received any resignation letter from any political appointee as at the close of work today, 26th March 2026.

"Please disregard any rumors of resignation letters by political appointees at the Office of the SGS.

"Official communication regarding this matter will be handled by the SSG appropriately."

Commissioners eyeing elective positions and expected to have resigned as at close of work on Thursday, March 26,2026 include Moses Osogi, Environment, Oden Ewa, Special Duties, Dr Egbe Ayuk, Health, and Bar. Ijom Ukam, Youth Development.
