CRIRS Pays N1.4m Insurance Benefit to Family of Deceased Staff

The family of a deceased staff member of the Cross River State Internal Revenue Service (CRIRS), Mr. Charles Ugbe, has received an insurance benefit worth N1.4 million on behalf of the deceased.

The premium, according to the Chairman of CRIRS, Prince Edwin Okon, was paid by an insurance company in which staff of the Internal Revenue Service are enrolled. The policy according to the Chairman covers illness and death.

He explained that the job of Revenue Service staff is very demanding and exposes them to risk which involves travelling, hence the introduction of the insurance cover.

“When I took over as the Chairman of CRIRS, I saw it necessary to introduce health insurance cover for staff, which would cover critical illness and death,” he said.

“Today, though it is on a sad note that we lost one of us, Mr. Charles Ugbe, we are happy that his widow has received benefits in cash worth N1.4 million from the insurance company. This should help cushion, to some extent, the financial gap left by the deceased,” the Chairman said.

Responding, the wife of the deceased, Mrs. Monica Ugbe, thanked CRIRS for the initiative that made the benefit possible.

She said the money would help her attend to some of the family’s pressing needs and pledged to put it to proper use.
