Corruption: EFCC Unravels Malami's Eight Blue Chip Companies in Kebbi

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has discovered over eight blue chip business concerns that belong to former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Malam Abubakar Malami SAN allegedly acquired through proceeds of fraud within eight years of his tenure as Attorney General of the Federation.

Little was known about Malami before he became the AGF under President Muhammadu Buhari. He was only known as being the Legal Adviser of the CPC.

However, within eight years of becoming the AGF, Malami has acquired the following businesses in his home state of Kebbi. They are Rayhaan Rice, Rayhaan University, Rayhaan Radio, Rayhaan Secondary and Primary, Rayhaan Security, Rayhaan Fire service, Rayhaan Farms, Azbir Hotel, Azbir Gallery.

A source close to EFCC revealed that the anti corruption agency is still working to unravel his estates and businesses in Abuja, and Kano State where he allegedly has substantial business concerns.

The source said that EFCC will soon approach a court to get an order to temporary forfeiture as properties acquired from proceeds of crime, pending permanent forfeiture.

“Just imagine the incredible acquisition of illicit wealth, properties within eight years by the former AGF in Kebbi State alone. And these properties were acquired under a supposed government with an anti-corruption mantra”, the source concluded.

Malami is presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who is investigating corruption allegations against him. A bid for his release was rejected by Justice Babangida Hassan of a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on December 18, 2025 who ruled that his detention since December 8, via a valid court order is not illegal.
