Campus News: We Are in the Season of Sweetness – UNICAL VC
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has stated that the University community is in the “season of sweetness."
Prof. Offiong said this while formally declaring open the 2025 UNICAL Staff Children Christmas Party, held recently at the Godswill Akpabio Conference Centre, University of Calabar.
The Vice Chancellor thanked God for His faithfulness and enablement in the lives of members of the University community and appreciated staff members who brought their children to participate in the Christmas celebration.
He prayed for continued success, peace, and progress for staff and their families in the years ahead.
Describing children as the future of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, and the nation at large, Prof. Offiong emphasized the need to nurture them in an atmosphere of love, unity, and care.
The University helmsman further prayed that the children would return home with lasting memories of joy from the celebration, adding that the UNICAL Staff Children Christmas Party has come to stay as part of the University’s welfare initiative.
In her closing remarks, the Organizer of the 2025 UNICAL Staff Children Christmas Party and Wife of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ame Efangha Offiong, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for the prompt release of funds, which ensured the success of the event.
She also commended members of the planning committee for their dedication and contributions, assuring members of the University community of more vibrant and improved celebrations in subsequent years.
Prof. Mrs. Offiong congratulated all contestants for their intelligence, confidence, and composure during the pageantry and spelling bee competitions, declaring all participants winners.
The event featured several exciting activities, with the cutting of the Christmas cake, spelling bee competition and the crowning of Abdul-Aliyu Zohan Ohiani as Little Master UNICAL and miss Ochanya Celine Audu as Little Miss UNICAL serving as major highlights of the celebration.
